This part of Step 1’s treatment is used to control crabgrass throughout the year. Having your lawn treated now for crabgrass is important, because this weed-like grass takes every opportunity that it can to grow in your yard by the time late spring rolls around. It doesn’t need much soil or sunlight, which means that it grows just about anywhere, including the cracks in your driveway and walkway, as well as bare spots in your yard. It your lawn isn’t watered properly or fertilized correctly, crabgrass will grow there, because it’s remarkably hardy. Once you get crabgrass, it’s hard to control, so the best way to avoid it is to get it treated in March or April.
