Lime Treatments
Soils are classified as acidic, alkaline, or neutral depending on the soil pH. A soil pH of 7 is considered neutral, while soil pH below 7 is known as acidic, and above 7 is known as alkaline.
Typical soil pH in Southwestern PA is considered acidic and ranges from 5.0 to 6.8 on average. Typical cool season turfgrasses, such as Kentucky Blue grass and Perennial Rye prefer a soil pH of 6.5 to 7.1. In order to help get the soil pH to the desired range, lime can be applied in the spring or fall.
Lime helps
Lime helps “sweeten” the soil. This will help bring the soil pH closer to the desired range. The benefits of this are to improve lawn color and density, and increase root development. A correct soil pH will free up soil nutrients and greatly increase the response of fertilizers and other products that we use on your lawn to keep it healthy and green.
